635561492232649872-ANthony-LyonsIf a picture is worth a thousand words, then 500,000 doggie photos is priceless! In what has to be the feel good story of the year (okay, I know it’s only been a week so far, but I have a feeling this one will be remembered for a long time) — Anthony Lyons, a young teenager with cancer, isn’t allowed see his dogs while he’s undergoing chemotherapy treatments at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, so a family friend came up with the idea to create a “Photo Doggies For Anthony” Facebook page for well-wishers to send in funny dog pictures to brighten his day.

Well, it didn’t take long for the doggie photos to come pouring in from all over the world, as the FB page went viral, and now over 500k doggie pics have been submitted for Anthony and all of us to enjoy! (USA Today)

Yeah, #Dogs Rule by @MarkUlriksenArt

One of my all-time favorite (dog) artists, Mark Ulriksen, has a new book out called Dogs Rule Nonchalantly, which is a humorous storybook for kids and adults, featuring some of Ulriksen’s greatest illustrations kibbles ‘n bits from The New Yorker and other fine publications that make up this touching, dog-crazy tale. GoPro For #Dogs!

Interested in seeing the world from a dog’s eye view? GoPro, the waterproof camera originally created for surfers and adventurers, has created a new animal-friendly version for dogs called Fetch. (But watch out — as there have been some recent Monkey business over copyright issues on animal selfies!)

However, if you do decide to strap on a pet cam, perhaps your pooch could be the next Doggie Ansel Adams! (NY Times)

French #Dogfriendly Book for Kids…and #Chiens

If you enjoy the artwork of Maira Kalman or Wendy MacNaughton (Lost Cat), then you will surely love the witty illustrations of Jackie Clark Mancuso in her new kids book, Paris-Chien: Adventures of an Ex-Pat Dog.

The charming dog tale is all about Hudson, a curiously inquisitive Norwich Terrier, trying to fit into the Parisian lifestyle. Bon appétit! (Picture Book Review)

Jeff Koons: Lover of #Dogs

If you’re in the Big Apple for the upcoming 4th of July weekend — you might want to catch the Jeff Koons Retrospective going on all summer long at The Whitney Museum of American Art.

Koons is the artist who’s famous for his huge balloon dog sculptures — but has some other provocative, non-canine-themed pieces as well. Of course I prefer his dog art. But I have to admit, the gigantic Play-Doh installation looks pretty cool! (The Guardian)

Mayor Gets Pooped On!

A dog-loving California mayor has resigned from office because of PoopGate — yes, he was busted on security camera for throwing his dog’s poop onto a neighbor’s yard, presumably because he didn’t warm to the neighbor’s aggressive “No Dog Poop” sign.

On a related note, HuffPo published a fun batch of Dog Poop Signs From Around the World slideshow for everyone’s enjoyment. Hmmm, I smell a childrens book coming soon! (HuffPo)
