Seth Casteel, the scuba dog-diving photographer/creator of Underwater Dogs — has gone deeper under the surface to bring out a new child-friendly version of his best-selling dog photo book, Underwater Dogs – Kids Edition. Although both books are entertaining for kids of all ages, Casteel also uses the money from his funny pics of water-logged dogs to raise money for dog rescues.

Talking Animals in ALL CAPS!
Like its funny dog blog cousins, Texts From Dog and Dogshaming, what started out as a Tumblr blog has now become a book — Talking Animals in All Caps by Justin Valmassoi.
But beware: THESE VARMINTS ARE VERY OUTSPOKEN!
Not Just About Dogs…
Delia Ephron, sister of the late romantic comedy legend, Nora Ephron, has a new book out called Sister Mother Husband Dog, Etc. It’s more about human family members than dogs — but still an enjoyable read. You can read my full review here.
And don’t judge the book by its cover, even if it does bear a remarkably similar jacket to the recent lit hit, Mother Daughter Me by Katie Hafner (right).
Take A Chance On A “Bad” Dog?
They say there is no such thing as bad dogs — just bad owners. However, the reality is much more complicated, as some dog owners don’t always get the pick of the litter, so to speak.

It’s Just A Dog Is Just An Amazon Bestseller!
As the dog days of summer have finally come to an end, I would like to send out a HUGE THANK YOU to all those who purchased a Kindle or paperback copy of It’s Just A Dog — in which 50% of sales were donated to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue during the 3-month launch.
And on top of supporting Muttville, you’ve also helped the book become an Amazon Bestseller (alongside some very cool cats)! Thanks again so much — we couldn’t have done it without you!
Microfinancing for Mutts!
As the dog days of summer come to an end, this is the last weekend to grab yourself a copy of It’s Just A Dog (on Kindle, $0.99 or paperback, $8.99) to have your purchase benefit Muttville Senior Dog Rescue. And to go out on a high note, I’m donating 100% of my royalties this week thru Labor Day, September 2, 2013.
Of course, if you’d like to help Muttville even more, you can donate directly or attend their fall party fundraiser, Moolah For Mutts!

Letters To and From My Dog…?
A few weeks ago, a great Goodreads friend recommended a dog book to me called A Letter To My Dog by Robin Layton, so I gladly put it on my GR shelf. And then over the weekend, I noticed that Brainpickings re-published an old letter by E.B. White (a.k.a., the author of Charlotte’s Web) — which was written under the pseudonym of his dog, Daisy.
So if you’re bored of social networking — your new best pen pal might just be lying at your feet!
Old Buddy Dog Sculpture
Frolicking in the shadows of The Golden Gate Bridge, SFMOMA has installed a series of abstract steel sculptures by the artist, Mark Di Suvero. Apparently though, many of the local dog walkers aren’t happy about these gigantic metal monuments taking up valuable space for the dogs to run and play; however, they might appreciate that one of the sculptures titled, Old Buddy (seen below), was named after the artist’s late dog.
And if you look even closer at the silver back legs of the sculpture, you can see Buddy has one leg lifted up towards the sky, perhaps leaving his own mark on the National Park’s green grass…which would make any dog proud! (photo: SFist)
Museum Cat Show!
Every dog cat has its day — and the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia are giving their ex-stray cats (who once lived in the museum’s basement) their due in a very special International cat art exhibit. (NYT; pic from AnimalNewyork.com)
