Did you know…Dave Eggers, the famed author of A Hologram For the King, Zeitoun, A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, and publishing marvel behind McSweeney’s, 826Valencia, just to name a few — also has a charming book of animal prints on his impressive résumé, It Is Right To Draw Their Fur: Animal Renderings

I Love This Book Cover…

Fairy Tale Interrupted by Rosemarie Terenzio is not a book about dogs — but rather about her relationship as the personal assistant to JFK Jr. (although there are a few brief descriptions of Sam, JFK Jr.’s crazy rescue dog) — but for some reason, it just gets me…

Where The Wild Dogs Are…

Maurice Sendak, the legendary childrens book author who passed away this week at 83, was famous for writing lotsa things about funny, furry varmints, including most notably, Where The Wild Things Are. My Dog Tulip Blooms…

Based on the book by J.R. Ackerley, My Dog Tulip, is a good, not great dog movie — mainly because I felt the storyline spent a little too much time focusing on Tulip’s desire to procreate. Not that I’m a prude by any means, but I digress…

Still, I couldn’t help but admire the film’s elegant, eye-popping animation and use of voice-over by Christopher Plummer — so it’s definitely worth a watch on Netflix.

Rin Tin Tin Deserves An Oscar, too!

Susan Orlean, author of The Orchid Thief (or Adaptation, if you saw the very creatively adapted film by Spike Jonze and Charlie Kaufman) is pushing for a posthumous Oscar for the subject of her latest book, Rin Tin Tin: The Life and Legend, as it seems that way back in 1929, some ne’er-do-well actor fetched the poor dog’s gold statue all for himself!

I think it was Chris Rock who once said that he wants to come back in the next life as Oprah’s dog. Well, heaven only knows if that’s possible — but here’s the next best thing: a list of Oprah’s favorite dog books!
