#DogsofTwitter meet the #Dogs of Photo Books!

If you’re a serious dog lover, then you probably enjoy cuddling up with a good dog book — especially ones with just pictures! Well, there’s a new litter of doggie photo books out there just in time for the holidays — Dogface (Barbara O’Brien), Dogs In Cars (Lara Jo Regan), and The Life and Love of Dogs (by master animal/nature photographer, Lewis Blackwell). Say woof!
Yeah, #Dogs Rule by @MarkUlriksenArt
One of my all-time favorite (dog) artists, Mark Ulriksen, has a new book out called Dogs Rule Nonchalantly, which is a humorous storybook for kids and adults, featuring some of Ulriksen’s greatest illustrations kibbles ‘n bits from The New Yorker and other fine publications that make up this touching, dog-crazy tale. (Amazon)
Underwater Puppies For You #Doglover!
The swimming pool might be closed for the summer — but that’s not stopping these Underwater Puppies from diving into the deep end! That’s right, it’s another photo book by doggie photographer, Seth Casteel.

GoPro For #Dogs!
Interested in seeing the world from a dog’s eye view? GoPro, the waterproof camera originally created for surfers and adventurers, has created a new animal-friendly version for dogs called Fetch. (But watch out — as there have been some recent Monkey business over copyright issues on animal selfies!)
However, if you do decide to strap on a pet cam, perhaps your pooch could be the next Doggie Ansel Adams! (NY Times)
Felt #Dogs For You, My Friend!
Don’t have the time or living quarters to have a real dog?
Well, now you can make your own feel-good soft puppy via Mitsuki Hoshi’s adorable Felt Dogs (Chronicle Books), which shows you step-by-step instructions on how to create your super-cute new best friend!
Maira Kalman Presents #Dogs Illustrated
In honor of last month’s announcement that The New Yorker was opening up its archives for FREE to readers (back to 2007) — I thought I’d suggest this essay on the colorful illustrator/writer/dog lover, Maira Kalman, whose work you’ve no doubt seen on the mag’s covers for years! (Slate)
Jeff Koons: Lover of #Dogs
If you’re in the Big Apple for the upcoming 4th of July weekend — you might want to catch the Jeff Koons Retrospective going on all summer long at The Whitney Museum of American Art.
Koons is the artist who’s famous for his huge balloon dog sculptures — but has some other provocative, non-canine-themed pieces as well. Of course I prefer his dog art. But I have to admit, the gigantic Play-Doh installation looks pretty cool! (The Guardian)
Hipster Puppies #Puptrousers!
A few years ago, a cute, fashion-funny dog photo book called Hipster Puppies came out.
But trends come and go — even in the dog world — and now it appears that #puptrousers are what it’s all about (although I guess the furry ear flap hats never go out of style)! (BarkPost)
Rich Dogs of Instagram?
Paul Nathan has photographed hipsters in Brooklyn — so it’s only naturally that he turns his camera on the most stylish New Yorkers around — dogs! Specifically, his dashing doggie photo book, Groomed, focuses exclusively on the dogs of the 1%. Is this class warfare for pets? I prefer to think of it as ‘The Shaved vs. The Shaved-Nots’.
Judging by the extreme looks on view, I actually kinda feel sorry for some of these overly pampered pooches — but I’m sure they’re very well fed! (Business Insider)
Ambassador Dogs to the Rescue!
What with all the poor diplomatic relations going on between countries today, I think the world could use some talented Ambassador Dogs — with a strong foreign policy background, of course.
And luckily for readers, Extreme Dog Lover/Trainer, Lisa Loeb (no, not the singer, Lisa Loeb, who also happened to come up with one of the greatest pet-friendly titled pop songs of the 90’s, “Stay”) has come out with a sweet, colorful photography book filled with heartwarming stories of all kinds of therapy dogs and service dogs who are doing their part to make this world a better place!

Big Dog Fans!
Before the world was introduced to the amazing dog photography in Shake and Underwater Dogs, there was a pooch art book classic simply called DOGS by UK authors, Tim Flach and Lewis Blackwell — and it’s a cool treat for all dog lovers!
Throw the Damn Ball Dog Poetry!
There’s a new dog poetry book that’s been unleashed in bookstores — and this one’s told from the dog’s POV. Building off the recent popular dog poem tomes of Dog Songs and I Could Chew On This, readers might want to go fetch Throw the Damn Ball: Classic Poetry by Dogs by R.D. Rosen, Harry Prichett, and Rob Battles.
Shake That Dog Book!
Carli Davidson has just unleashed upon the world the ultimate doggies-drying-off-video, which is accompanied by her beautiful photo book, Shake…
Shake, Rattle & Roll!
No Country For Old Man Dogs?
There has recently been a lot of dogs/dog owner-lookalike contests, but what about dogs and old guys? Tom Cohen has a new doggie humor photo book out — Dogs With Old Man Faces — which looks like a fun one! (HuffPo)
