No writer has consistently written better stuff on dogs in the past decade than Jon Katz, whose bestseller, A Dog Year, was adapted into an HBO movie starring Jeff Bridges — but he may have saved the best for his latest, Going Home: Finding Peace When Pets Die, a touching, no nonsense non-fiction guide to grieving and getting over the loss of your lovely pet.

Ebay’s New Dog Commercial
Let’s face it: as a dog owner, we’ve all been there. Whether it’s an expensive dress, a favorite pair of slippers, or a fancy piece of furniture….(eBay)
Kabang the Snout-less Dog Coming To America
I think it’s safe to say that this is a dog story that you’ve never heard before…
Meet Kabang, a dog from the Phillipines, who got half her snout ripped off after saving two little girls from getting hit by a motorcycle. Kabang — er, Kabang! — is set to arrive at UC Davis in the San Francisco Bay Area to get reconstructive surgery to repair the damage. If that’s the dog’s face, I can’t imagine what the motorcycle looks like! (SFGate)
Bo Knows Obama
You know the Presidential race is getting serious when they bring out the family dogs to hit the campaign trail (although Mitt Romney’s pooch is apparently staying in the car–haha!). But what do you know? Today, President Obama’s trusty advisor/Portugese Water Dog, Bo, turns 4 — as this picture proves once again that dogs are truly a man’s President’s best friend! (Business Insider)

Awkward Family Pet Photos…
If you’ve gotten a chuckle out of the popular Awkward Family Photos book/blog that has stormed the Internets over the past few years…
Then you will howl at the equally funny pet version of the book, Awkward Family Pet Photos, which features a lot of uncomfortably photographed dogs.
Pet Cemetery Gets Some Respect
With all due respect to Stephen King (author of Pet Sematary), The Hartsdale Pet Cemetery in New York state has been named to The National Register of Historic Places. The 116-year-old property houses over 75,000 beloved animals.
Boy, if only those headstones could talk…RIP!
Mazel Dogs!
With this week’s Yom Kippur, it’s that time of year to atone — so let’s all take a moment to remember our Jewish dog friends by taking a look back at How To Raise A Jewish Dog by Ellis Weiner and Barbara Davilman…
United Airlines Killed This Model’s Dog?
Although United’s motto is “Fly the pet-friendly skies”, Maggie Rizer, an International model, is delivering a cautionary tale to the world about her dog’s tragic flight aboard the commercial airliner. After hearing this sad news, I think we can all agree that our dogs deserve an upgrade from cargo!
Aimee Mann’s Labrador
Singer-songwriter, Aimee Mann, has a new album out called Charmer — and my favorite track is her new single, Labrador. Although the song seems mostly about human relationships judging by the lyrics (“I’m a labrador/’Cause I come back for more…”), I’m sure there’s a real life dog story behind it. After all, there must be a reason she didn’t call it French Bulldog or Rhodesian Ridgeback!
Check out the Labrador video here with Jon Hamm.
Dog Texting?
I don’t know about you, but I think this dog texting thing is getting way out of control…(Text From My Dog)

It’s All in The Dog Stars…
Peter Heller’s new novel, The Dog Stars, is a doomsday story about a man and his dog stuck in an abandoned airport in Colorado. If the world is coming to an end — let’s face it, there are few better companions than man’s (and woman’s) best friend!
Moon Doggie?
We all have our stories behind the naming of our dogs — and here’s a nice tribute to why this man named his dog after the late Neil Armstrong. One small step for man, one giant leap for man’s best friend!
