If you’ve ever been around Jack Russell terriers, then you know they can be a handful — but in a great way! And now there’s a handsome new JRT photo book from Abrams called (what else?) I, Jack Russell, with Jack-tastic photographs by Andy Hughes. (Kitson)

Real Talking Dogs?
I swear I’m not making this up — but Dr. Melody Jackson at Georgia Tech is leading a team of scientists to develop wearable technology to make it possible for dogs to communicate with their owners. And its called Project FIDO: Faciliating Interactions for Dogs with Occupations (I know, it doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, does it?)
That said, let’s hope this innovative invention gives a voice to all of our animal friends! (Business Insider, photo by: Adil Dellawalla)
Yoga Dogs!
I don’t think think Downward Dog has anything to do with dogs — but Yoga Dogs certainly knows how to strike a pose!
Jaws For Paws!
With all this Sharknado stuff trending hot this summer, the big kitties are getting cat scratch fever! (BuzzFeed Animals)

The Cat’s Meow-morphosis!
Even though the book is over two years old, it’s hard not to still be charmed by the clever take on Kafka’s classic, The Meowmorphosis, from Quirk Books. Plus the book trailer is just as good as what you’ll see for any major Hollywood summer movie!
What’s also interesting to note is that the Los Angeles Times recently featured a vintage pic of Kafka with his beloved dog!
Dogs Need Glasses, Too!
If your dog is having problems focusing or reading — then maybe he just needs glasses…
And Barney Saltzberg’s charming dog/children’s book, Arlo Needs Glasses, may just open you and your dog’s eyes!
Soul Mammals!
Just in case there was any doubt how close we feel to the animals in our lives, Dr. Vint Virga’s new book, The Soul of All Living Creatures, explains it all. Virga also discussed the human-animal connection on a recent radio interview on WNYC’s The Leonard Lopate Show.
Look, It’s A Bobcat!
I haven’t read this new book of short stories, but I’m fairly certain none of them are about feral animals. However, judging by the reviews, it appears to be a very solid collection of tales by Rebecca Lee about the wild side of the human condition. And check out that beautiful Bobcat illustration on the cover! (NYT)
The Dog Supermodel?
I wonder if this dog model poses for nudes as well…(BuzzFeed)
Dogtripping, yeah!
If you’re planning a big summer vacation on the road with your dog, then you might want to check out David Rosenfelt’s Dogtripping. But this book is more than just a funny Chevy Chase dog story — it’s about Rosenfelt’s account of moving 25 dogs (yes, 25!) from California to Maine, as he and his wife start up their dog rescue, The Tara Foundation, which has found thousands of new homes for foster dogs. Let’s Get This Dog Book Party Started!
If you’re in the SF Bay Area tomorrow (July 13), pop on by the Love A Senior Saturday / Muttville Dog Book Party.
There will be books, there will be dogs, doggie photographers, a doggie kissing booth — honestly, it’s just too much fun to cover in a single dog blog post! And the best part is that 100% of sales go to Muttville Senior Dog Rescue.
Eloise Would Like A Dog, Please!
Hilary Knight, the famed illustrator of the Eloise books, has created the new poster for Broadway Barks 15, the annual star-studded adopt-a-thon hosted by co-founder, Bernadette Peters.
So if you’re near Times Square this weekend, the event takes place in Shubert Alley, where the bright lights of Broadway will be on the show dogs (and cats)! (DogTipper)
Books On A Boat!
Over the holiday weekend, The Wall Street Journal showcased some of the world’s most unique bookstores — with my personal favorite being the UK’s Book Barge (because they have a dog providing security, of course)!
